Brenna, Bradie and I went to Derrick and Carol’s son’s birthday party yesterday. He turned 2. Brad was working late. Brenna did pretty well but had one incident when she wouldn’t give up one of Ben’s presents and almost hit another kid. Still not sure what to do about the hitting. She managed to stop herself from hitting that kid so maybe I’m getting through. At preschool, the teacher says she was pushing. The teacher also said she kept scaring them on the playground by getting into dangerous situations like letting go while they were swinging. She was also dangling by something (not sure what the teacher was talking about), and didn’t even yell for help. The teacher said she wanted me to know about it so I wouldn’t think they weren’t taking care of her—kinda gave me the opposite impression but I guess she didn’t have to tell me. Brenna wouldn’t have. I certainly understand though that she has absolutely NO FEAR. Not sure what to do about that. And that’s what I told the teacher.
Brenna’s speech is improving every day, slowly. Last night she brought me a book and instead of saying “Mybooks” which is what she usually says, she said very clearly, “MaMa Read.” I almost fainted. She wants to potty train I think. She loves to pull off her diaper and say “Pee Pee Potty,” and sit down but will not go. I don’t want to discourage her but I can’t let her run around without her diaper all the time either. We usually sit with her a few minutes each time, and then put her diaper back on. I do have to tell her not to take her pants off sometimes though and I hope that is not discouraging the potty training. I guess one day she’ll go. I’m trying not to get too worked up about it. Ben got a very cute gift yesterday–Potty Elmo. He drinks from his sippy cup, then goes on the potty. If you don’t put him on the potty. He says, “Ooops Elmo missed the potty!” We gave Ben, the Leap Frog Fridge Phonics that Christa gave Brenna for Christmas. She really knows the alphabet song now after playing with that thing for 2 weeks.
Bradie is growing and growing. She can almost stay in a sitting position by herself now, and she is grabbing for everything that gets near her–especially my hair. She smiles at anyone who smiles at her, and sticks her tongue out showing off that dimple. She’s a very good baby but would not go back to sleep last night at 1:30. She would cry off and on until about 3:30. She is still not doing well on the bottle, and can only stay awake for a couple hours at a time. She really surprised me yesterday at the party. She was awake from 3 til 7, but was at the end of her tether by then. I guess she was occupied by watching all the kids at the party.
